What does “4014” mean?
In industry standards for reverse osmosis membranes, the numbers typically follow the rule where the first two digits indicate the diameter and the last two indicate the length (with units usually in inches).
- “40”: Indicates that the nominal outer diameter of the membrane element is approximately 4.0 inches (approx. 101.6 mm).
- “14”: Indicates that the nominal length of the membrane element is approximately 14 inches (approx. 355.6 mm).
Compared to the 4040 (40-inch long) or 8040 membrane elements commonly used in large-scale industrial applications, the 4014 is a short membrane element specifically designed for compact systems with space constraints or lower permeate flow requirements.
Description

- Compact design with high space efficiency
Its 14-inch length allows for easy horizontal or vertical installation within small-scale housings, significantly reducing the overall footprint of the water treatment system.
- Standardized interfaces for easy maintenance
Despite its shorter length, the membrane shares the same diameter as standard 4040 membranes and utilizes standard 4-inch housings (requiring only the selection of a housing of the appropriate length). Accessories and seals are interchangeable, making procurement and replacement highly convenient.
- Low operating pressure and significant energy savings
The 4014 membrane features a polyamide Thin-Film Composite (TFC) construction and operates at Ultra-Low Pressure (ULP). This enables the use of lower-power pumps, thereby reducing overall energy consumption and noise levels.
