STRO (Spiral-Tube Reverse Osmosis) is a reverse osmosis membrane element specifically designed for the treatment of highly polluted, high-salinity, and complex wastewater. It combines the excellent desalination performance of reverse osmosis membranes with a spiral-tube open-channel structure; compared to traditional spiral-wound reverse osmosis membranes, it offers superior fouling resistance, higher cleaning efficiency, and more stable long-term operational performance.

Achieves a 99% desalination rate under standard test conditions; superior feed water quality enables even higher performance standards.

Features a specialized hydraulic design that minimizes concentration polarization and reduces the tendency for fouling and scaling.

Utilizes a 45° diamond-shaped dual-layer flow channel design, ensuring superior cleaning efficiency and easier performance recovery.

Working Principle

01. Based on the principle of reverse osmosis, water molecules are forced to permeate in reverse under high pressure.

02. After high-pressure wastewater enters the system, purified water permeates the membrane and is collected, while contaminants are retained on the concentrate side and discharged.

STRO Membrane Structure

The STRO (Spiral-Tube Reverse Osmosis) membrane features a composite structure and is a specialized form of spiral-wound RO membrane with a more advanced internal design. It adopts a 45° diamond-shaped dual-layer open feed channel, which significantly optimizes the feed flow path and increases the effective membrane area, resulting in more uniform pressure distribution and improved hydraulic performance.

STRO Membrane Winding Design

The STRO reverse osmosis membrane utilizes a modified membrane leaf configuration by shortening the membrane leaves while increasing the total number of leaves. This design shortens the permeate flow path, reduces pressure loss in the permeate channel, and maintains a more uniform net driving pressure (NDP) along the membrane surface. As a result, water flux remains more consistent across the entire membrane, effectively reducing concentration polarization and improving overall separation efficiency and long-term operational stability.

Applications

It has a wide range of applications, primarily focusing on the separation of specialty materials, the treatment of complex industrial wastewater, and high-recovery concentration processes.

☑ Wastewater Treatment

In wastewater treatment, STRO membranes effectively remove harmful substances and suspended solids, thereby improving water quality.

☑ Solid-Liquid Separation for Food

In the food industry, the fouling resistance and cleanability of STRO membranes make them particularly suitable for processing liquids that are highly viscous, prone to scaling, or contain high levels of suspended solids—such as milk and fruit juice—facilitating solid-liquid separation.

☑ Biopharmaceuticals

In the biopharmaceutical sector, STRO membranes are used for applications such as the separation and purification of biomolecules and pharmaceutical production.

☑ Other Fields

STRO membranes also demonstrate excellent performance in applications involving circulating cooling water, landfill leachate, mine wastewater, chemical industry wastewater, coal chemical wastewater, coking wastewater, electroplating wastewater, and iron and steel industry wastewater.
