PAPER & PRINTING

Pigment processing typically involves a chemical reaction to precipitate the metal oxides from suspensions of solvent . The resulting precipitate should be separated from the suspension in a solid / liquid separation . The filter cake is actually the product and this cake is typically washed to remove all traces of solvent mother waters. The mother liquor , as it is a solvent , is expensive to replace and / or dispose of , which is also important that the filter is relatively clear for reuse. The most common type of liquid / solid ( filter) separation used in this application is a recessed chamber filter press , often equipped with the option to press the diaphragm. Some special pigments , especially titanium dioxide and kaolin clay using large rotating drum filters for separating suspensions vacuum aqueous based mother liquor , where concerns are less . Menardi has supplied high-tech woven fabrics are often used in press felts and filters commonly used in rotary drum filters specially treated vacuum. A pigment processor was using multifilament monofilament fabrics / recessed in its press polypropylene filter to ensure efficient removal of the precipitate phase fine particles. Such filtration minimizes product loss adjusted through the liquid / solid separation and further minimizes leakage of the mother liquor for reuse. The problem was that the multifilament fibers connect easily resulting in short filter life and drying the cake difficulty during the later stages of the life cycle of the filter.
